Every Cloud has a Silver Lining

A second one, in a span of about a half of day from the first. So, to cut things short, let us say that I was asked to check out this old days song Sepercik Air (A Drop of Water) that was sung by Deddy Stanzah and give my thoughts on it. So, here it is.

The song has this olden days vibes; from the tones, the way it was sung, the music of the instruments, and even the audio recording itself, which I don’t actually know how to explain in detail, but I am sure people will get it anyway. I did heard songs from the past, especially when I was visiting my grandparents and they were watching olden days tv shows or films, as I had since been familiar with a bit of the soundtracks, not as detailed as the lyrics are, but at least the “shape” of the musics themselves. Sepercik Air does have those little values that even I can feel the nostalgic effects it gave during my listening run. Well then, aside from the more “technical” manifestation of the song itself, let us go for the essences and the meaning of it based on the lyrics, at least from how I think it is.

The introduction verse, I saw it as telling that there will always be hardships in life, but there too always a way out of it so that the lives will be out of the “dark” into the “light”, ish. The next (first) verse follows the introduction that at last, light had been cast over the dark as the singer’s “wish” of having a clear, bright, and mesmerising sky had been granted over the night (langit nan kemilau), for a meaningful moment indeed. The next and last three verses are basically a repetitive sequence but has a few changes, for example rather than wanting the ironically beautiful night (darkness/hardships) to be over (Seakan ingin membunuh san malam), now after the light it seems like such events are not to happen again (malam indah tak kan datang), thus leaving the singer as a character within the song to be left in perpetual light. with similar meaning to the first two as far as I can see it.

It’s kind of rough up there, but now that I can simplify it, the two essences of the song are that humanity will always want to be free of hardships indefinitely without worries nor fear and more importantly, that every cloud has a silver lining, which is that in every unpleasant events there are always positives humanity can gain for a better future.

Sure, I did not usually review songs in-depth so here are basically everything that I had in mind when writing this post, and with that, that is all for now.

The lyrics itself, you can read it here and I have decided to preserve it in its original language format.

Sepercik air berwarna bening
Nyanyian dewa dalam dentingan harpa
Dan kau langit secerah kemilau
Seakan ingin membunuh sang malam
Seakan ingin membunuh malam

Dan terwujudlah, dalam khayal
Langit nan kemilau
Langit nan kemilau
Teramat indah, selayak langitpun merona
dalam kemesraan

Sepercik air berwarna bening
Gemercik nyiur mengurai rerumputan
Malam indah tiada kan datang
Mengucapkan salam bagi dunia
Mengucapkan salam dunia

Dan terwujudlah, dalam khayal
Langit nan kemilau
Langit nan kemilau
Teramat indah, selayak langitpun merona
dalam kemesraan

Sepercik air berwarna bening
Gemercik nyiur mengurai rerumputan
Malam indah tiada kan datang
Mengucapkan salam bagi dunia
Mengucapkan salam dunia
